A journal celebrating local running and the local runner
In this age of super shoes, lotteries for far off races, and run-influencers with millions of social media followers, there’s a need to bring running back to its more elemental state —bringing it back to the simple act of efficiently and joyfully moving one’s body through time and space, to the everyday practice of connecting with one’s body, potential, fellow runner, and planet. The Run Home is borne of that need, seeking to remove the complexity, costs, and egoism that can make it feel like a rarefied act for the ultra-fast and well-appointed. The Run Home was not conceived to deprive anyone of their drive, achievements, or even obsessions with the technical aspects of the sport, but it is intended to distance itself from the primacy of these things, which can make running seem more exclusive, expensive, and high impact than it needs to be.
The Run Home name is meant to evoke this return to elemental running —where our most important runs are the ones made from our doorsteps, where our most cherished running mates and competitors are the people we run with week in, week out, where the best gear is what we got or can afford. The Run Home celebrates the everyday run and runner, whether that runner is a plodder or a pro.
Ironically, The Run Home is being hatched in Boulder, Colorado, where many of the ordinary, everyday runs and runners are pretty far from ordinary. We will be launching a newsletter and online journal sometime in the winter of 2025, followed by in-person runs, races, and events.
